3 large onions   
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons cornstarch   
1 cup milk   
1/2 teaspoon salt      
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese                                  

    

      Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
     In a large skillet sauté onions in butter until onions are soft but not brown.
     Transfer onions to a greased casserole dish.  Set aside.
     Combine cornstarch with milk.  Pour mixture into pan that was used to cook onions.
     Cook mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.  
     Stir in cheese, salt and pepper.
     Continue cooking and stirring until cheese is melted.  Remove from heat.
     Pour cheese sauce mixture over onions and stir mixture to evenly distribute sauce.
     Bake 25-30 minutes or until top is golden brown.

Serves 4
